The invocation of the winds is one of the abandoned prophetic Sunnahs, which we must follow in imitation of the Prophet’s Sunnah. The Messenger (may God bless him and grant him peace) used to ask God for forgiveness if he saw strong winds and pray to God to protect him from its evil, as the winds are a sign of God’s signs that God harnesses for good and for rain, just as It also brings torment, so God advised us if we see strong winds to pray to Him and ask His forgiveness with the supplications that were received from the Messenger of God.
The virtue of praying for strong winds
The Messenger of God (may God’s prayers and peace be upon him) said: “The wind is from the Spirit of God (the Most High), it brings mercy, and it brings punishment, so if you see it, do not abuse it, and ask God for its good, and seek refuge in God from its evil.”
And the meaning of the hadeeth is that the wind is an army of God’s soldiers, with which God destroyed the people of Ad, and they thought it was rain and good coming upon them, and he (peace and blessings of God be upon him) forbade insulting the wind, and we must ask God for forgiveness and ask Him for its goodness from rain and germinating crops, and we seek refuge in Him from its evil and from destruction and destruction.
And the winds come bearing rain if God wills, and the time of rain is a time when the supplication of the supplicant is answered, so increase your supplication during rains and strong winds, and it is necessary to follow the Sunnah of the Messenger (may God bless him and grant him peace) and a lot of seeking forgiveness and supplications received from him.
Strong wind prayer

The wind is what maintains the balance of temperatures in the earth, and without it, the temperatures change on a daily basis, which causes disturbances in the climate and order on the earth. And God destroyed the people of Ad with it.” And he used to kneel while praying.
Among the supplications for strong winds in the year:
- O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good in it, and the good of what it was sent with, and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it was sent with.
- “Glory be to God who thunder glorifies His praise and the angels out of fear of Him.”
- Oh God, forgive us and have mercy on us and be satisfied with us and forgive us and accept from us and forgive us and write for all human beings that they are among the people of Paradise and forgive us and be satisfied with all your creation and have mercy on them, O Lord.”
- “Oh God, send down your mercy on us, and make us among the people of Paradise, O Lord, and grant us victory, O Lord of the worlds, and open a great conquest for us, and grant us sincerity, support Islam, dearest Muslims, protect us and protect us, and write this year as a year of conquest, goodness and blessings for all of us.”
- O God, your forgiveness is wider than our sins, and your mercy is more hopeful to us than our deeds. You forgive sins to whomever You wish, and You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.
- “Oh God, we cry for help, we seek your vast mercy from the treasuries of your generosity, so help me, O Most Merciful, there is no god but You, Glory be to You, and with Your praise we wronged ourselves, so have mercy on us, for You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.”
- “O gentle, oh gentle, oh gentle, be kind to me with your hidden kindness, and I mean with your ability.
Strong strong wind prayer
One of the Sunnahs of the Prophet that is absent from us now is supplication and seeking forgiveness when strong winds blow. The Messenger of God (may God’s prayers and peace be upon him) was afraid of it, fear appeared on him, and he hastened to seek God’s forgiveness and supplication (may God bless him and grant him peace), since God destroyed a people who returned with the wind.
- “O Allah, I ask You, O He who is not confused by questions, O He who is not distracted by hearing after hearing, O He who is not disturbed by the insistence of the persistent, O God, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of affliction, the grasp of misery, the bad judgment, and the gloating of enemies.”
- “We seek refuge in God from the wind that God has imposed on the wrongdoers.”
- “O God, make for me from all that concerns me and troubles me in the affairs of this world and the hereafter a relief and a way out, and grant me sustenance from where I do not reckon, and forgive me my sins, and establish your hope in my heart, and cut it off from anyone other than You, so that I do not hope for anyone but You.”
- Oh God, around us and not against us, O God, on the hills and hills and the bottoms of the valleys and the places of the trees.
Prayer for forgiveness when strong winds blow
One of the prophetic Sunnahs that the Messenger (may God bless him and grant him peace) used to do is a lot of asking for forgiveness and supplication during strong winds, and it is preferable to supplicate during wind and rain and it is a time of response.
- “O Allah, we ask Your forgiveness for every sin that follows despair of Your mercy, despair of Your forgiveness, and deprivation of the abundance of what You have.”
- “Oh God, we ask forgiveness from you for every sin that removes blessings, solves punishment, destroys the sanctuary, bequeaths remorse, prolongs sickness, and hastens pain.”
- “Oh God, we ask your forgiveness for every sin that annihilates good deeds and multiplies bad ones, solves vengeance and angers you, Lord of the earth and the heavens.”
- “O Allah, we ask Your forgiveness for every sin that calls for Your anger, leads me to Your wrath, inclines us to what You have forbidden us from, or distances us from what You have called us to.”
Things to follow when strong winds blow
There are some things that we must follow, remembering in times of strong winds:
- Pray to God and ask for forgiveness.
- Evoking the fear of God, remembering His wrath, repenting to God, and seeking refuge from His torment.
- Stay home when strong winds to avoid any accidents or problems.
- If the wind is loaded with dirt and dust, people with asthma and allergies should not go out.
- Not insulting the wind, as mentioned in the hadith of the Messenger of God (may God bless him and grant him peace), because it is a mockery of God.
